Whoever did the casting did a perfect job.

I know very little about DCFC. I heard this song by chance on a local station. I thought it was beautiful and decided to look for it on Youtube. I had never seen this video until now. Sometimes when you notice something beautiful, it's best just to be thankful for that moment - and leave it be.

After reading the lyrics and watching the video I feel: This woman is actively avoiding something unpleasant in her hometown of NYC. She goes to great lengths to get away and distance herself. She has rebuffed the unwanted advances of the man singing the song. Men believe if they do not give up, eventually they will wear down and "win" the woman. The singer has been arrested for stalking. He is in jail. The other men with him are in jail. Each playing their own music, their unique non-unique stalker story, their own story of mental cruelty and physical violence against women, yet they feel unjustly jailed. The players unite as the stalker sings the song describing them one and all: I am the man and I cannot fail and you are the woman and next time I will try even harder to possess your heart. He can't admit yet that he will kill her if he can't have her, but that will come at the end of her final rejection of him. At the start of the video, he is being released from jail. She just learned the news, and she's getting out of town.

Please read Gavin De Becker's non-fiction book "The Gift of Fear". In short, it's about following your instinct because you HAVE instinct. There is a way to break with a man. You must SAY to him directly you are not interested AND tell him you will not be changing your mind in the future. Be direct because any words that can be twisted in his mind to give him hope, he will surely twist them. (Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber is told the chances of Lauren Holly going out with him are ONE in ONE MILLION. Excitedly he responds "Then there IS a chance!!!" Men are taught if they don't give up they will win.

The next song I heard by Death Cab for Cutie was "I Will Follow You Into the Dark." Hearing it marked the end of my interest in DCFC. Not to be outdone by "Possess your Heart", "I Will Follow you Into the Dark" is clearly, CLEARLY a song about a Murder/Suicide. The man is going to kill the woman. Then he will kill himself so he can be with her, hugging her forever in the dark.

Dear Death Cab for Cutie: I have no interest in hearing you, and I will not be changing my mind in the future. Goodbye.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02630733058719701493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2111651634417201066.post-44301668062376106892017-04-13T05:51:42.571-04:002017-04-13T05:51:42.571-04:00Thanks for sharing your. I've thought there was something - ya know - underneath it all. One of my girlfriends said it was different for girls watching it. She figures it's about a woman challenging misogynist dogma, and using his own methods, tools and behaviour against him, to destroy him and eventually triumph. I suppose the end sends some quite mixed messages. She corrupts the system to exact the revenge on the user, but still looks like a package of meat as per the misogynist tendency.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2111651634417201066.post-84794474694998084592010-08-24T13:16:06.968-04:002010-08-24T13:16:06.968-04:00Hey!

When you only have two hours, studios tend to chuck things like character development in favor of more visually exciting beats, since they believe that a movie should be nothing more than the producers jangling a very shiny and expensive set of keys in front of the audience for two hours.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14569180426066178711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2111651634417201066.post-90327507751611292362010-05-21T13:25:27.390-04:002010-05-21T13:25:27.390-04:00I love Gaga, and this is a really cool look at yet...I love Gaga, and this is a really cool look at yet another facet of her utter coolness. If I happen to get advance notice that I'm going to die within a short period of time, I'm gonna burn every goddamn bridge I possibly can for the sake of seeing the flames go up. After all, when else would I be able to hijack an ambulance and plow through midday traffic while chugging a bottle of absinthe? Although, I suppose it's pretty much a certainty that the day I do that WILL BE the day I die...

Conversely, there is some merit in the idea of not taking the future for granted. I'm always reminded of the only episode of Cupid that I can still remember, wherein Jeremy Piven's character (who may or may not be an incarnation of Cupid himself) convinces an HIV-Positive woman to fall in love with a man despite the fact that she can't have a long-term relationship with him, only to face shocking trauma when he is run over by a bus two days later. It may never have happened in real life, but the lesson is still strong: Don't take the future for granted, because you're not guaranteed to live to a ripe old age. Or, as The Specials say, "Enjoy yourself. It's later than you think."Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14569180426066178711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2111651634417201066.post-57204991439153219152010-05-10T18:52:37.802-04:002010-05-10T18:52:37.802-04:00HAHAHAHA.

It's almost as if they forgot that they were (and are) the ones dictating that to their readers, shaping what the ideal is. Megan Fox would still be B-List if every magazine in the world didn't seize upon her and decide that she was the new "it" girl. And actual talent is clearly not an indicator, because Christina Hendricks is so much better of an actress than Megan Fox it's almost as if they're not in the same line of work.

I remember magazines calling a lot of attention to Cameron Diaz's eating habits when There's Something About Mary was in theaters. The gist was always, "she eats like a fat pig, but stays super hot! If you were dating Cameron, you wouldn't have to choose between a woman who shares your tastes and a woman who lives up to your wildly unrealistic standards of physical perfection!" and so on. Shame it's happening to somebody who really does have a lot of talent this time around, but at least she's not as annoying as Megan Fox.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14569180426066178711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2111651634417201066.post-13936448308443179872010-04-24T13:23:37.033-04:002010-04-24T13:23:37.033-04:00Thanks, Pet!

I've seen countless profiles that include whatever the subject in question is eating, and I also find it superfluous, as if the audience is supposed to judge the person by what they put in their mouth during that particular interview.

I actually like the New York piece, but in the print edition, the article was disappointingly small and diminished by the focus on her figure. In it, she actually bemoans and is embarrassed by the attention on just her body. I think most people wouldn't be able to recognize her from those Esquire pictures; she looks like Julianne Moore. Not sure if that was the magazine, photographer, or actress' decision to appear that way, but while she looks good, I'm not a fan.MediaMavenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12548519999729515206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2111651634417201066.post-64658079476884657502010-04-23T21:39:58.278-04:002010-04-23T21:39:58.278-04:00Is eating pork and beer-battered foods supposed to...Is eating pork and beer-battered foods supposed to mean that’s what real women eat, and that the women who don’t (those "anorexic-induced sized twos") are less worthy? That there is automatically a connection, that thin women must be starving themselves if they choose not to eat such “men-approved” foods?

There was a really good post written by Amanda Hess about the performance of beauty for women, and if I weren't so sleepy I would find it for you in a second.

What I find so egregious about articles that mention how these beautiful (and, no matter how curvy, pretty damn small) women eat things like fried foods or potato chips or chili fries is that they are implicitly saying that these women are better than the average not just because they are beautiful but because they don't work for it. After all, that beautiful girl who can down beer and massacre a plate of wings is obvs a better choice than the girl who, like, eats salads and goes on weight watchers in order to maintain her figure.

I don't watch Mad Men, and the only thing I've seen Christina Hendricks in is Firefly. But I think your point, about the continuous focus on how she looks to the detriment of who she is and how talented she is, is a good one.

Also, on a shallower note, I'm so glad you mentioned how the Esquire pictures look almost nothing like her.petplutohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01053307189721906583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2111651634417201066.post-10561525708848317052010-03-16T22:46:52.966-04:002010-03-16T22:46:52.966-04:00Someone can certainly have a major influence witho...Someone can certainly have a major influence without it being directly discovered in an artist's work. I like many writers, but I doubt my writing reflects all or even many of my influences (if I was to ever attempt to make a list). And if I was a musician, I know that my music would not reflect all the artists I love and enjoy, many of whom have had a tremendous influence on how I view the world and what I like. So that article is bogus.

I certainly understand why people wouldn't like John Mayer; I find his comments particularly hilarious, and he seems like a great guy to hang out with.
